COVID-19 & Commencement

A message from the Commencement Department:

At WGU, the health and wellbeing of our graduates, students, faculty, and staff remain our top priority. We continue to monitor CDC guidelines on the COVID-19 pandemic. At this time, WGU will continue to host virtual ceremonies for our graduates. Please visit wgu.edu/virtual for the latest updates.

When it is safe to return to in-person commencements, dates and locations of future in-person commencements will be shared on our website, social media, and via email to graduates.

Please note, graduates who participate in a virtual commencement in 2020 or 2021 may still join us for an in-person commencement in the future.

To watch the virtual commencement visit this page or WGU’s official YouTube channel. You may also watch via WGU’s official Facebook page. Bookmark this page for easy navigation on commencement day.

Cap and gown FAQs.

Yes, once purchased, your cap and gown is yours to keep. Regalia is mailed directly to the purchaser, not the commencement location, so you will receive any previously ordered regalia.

Thank you to all graduates who made a generous donation to the Fellow Night Owl Scholarship fund. Graduates can pick up their philanthropy cord at a future commencement or request their cord be mailed to them directly. If this is the case for you, please send an email notification to advancement@wgu.edu. All donations have been honored as charitable contributions and we are grateful for our graduates who have paid it forward to support scholarships for future WGU night owls.
