WESTERN GOVERNORS UNIVERSITY Student Financial Resources
Financial options during hardship.
WGU is committed to supporting our students during times of unexpected financial challenge. Whatever you are facing, we are committed to helping you continue to pursue your education and reach your career goals. The resources listed below are intended to support students when their ability to pay for tuition and educational expenses have been impacted. Please know that these resources are offered through the generous support of the WGU Board of Trustees; donations from employees, students, and alumni; and external foundation supporters of WGU.
Financial aid revision.
If you have experienced extenuating financial circumstances since you completed your 2020–21 FAFSA or since the 2018 tax year, your financial aid request may be adjusted for special circumstances. If you haven’t already, please email our specialized Financial Aid team at facounselors@wgu.edu and provide a brief summary of how your financial situation has changed since you completed your 2020–21 FAFSA or since the 2018 tax year.
The Financial Aid counseling team will then determine if your circumstances would warrant a Professional Judgment that may improve your eligibility parameters for additional federal grants or loans. They will provide instructions and documentation requirements for a Professional Judgment if you are eligible for one.
Online Access Scholarship.
At WGU, we believe that while talent is universal, access to opportunity is not. That's why we have made a commitment to increase access to education, making it possible for individuals to improve their lives and the lives of their families by earning a college degree online.
To help reach this goal, we are offering the Online Access Scholarship. The scholarship will cover the cost of installing and accessing internet for students who might not otherwise be able to get online. The scholarship will also provide recipients with a refurbished laptop, complete with a webcam. We know that these tools are key in helping students have access to education, and thus access to opportunity.
Scholarships.
If you are concerned about a tuition balance you currently have on your student account or anticipate a balance you will not be able to pay in a future term, please fill out a scholarship application for the Financial Support Fund, which will be reviewed by the scholarship committee. You will need to complete the General Application as well as the supplemental Financial Support Fund application. Once completed, the Scholarships team will contact you within 1–2 business days to complete the next steps.
Funding is prioritized at this time for students who have completed at least one term with WGU and are utilizing all available resources to pay tuition, including federal and state grants, student loans, and employer-sponsored tuition reimbursement.
Additional support.
If you have financial needs you are concerned about outside of tuition on your WGU account, please email WGU at emergencystudentaid@wgu.edu.
