WGU Academic Engagement Webinars New Thinking on the Art and Science of Teaching and Learning

Presenters

Erinn Nicley is a Western Governors University political science faculty member since 2014. He previously held adjunct instructor positions in political geography, international relations, and sociology at Ohio State University, University of Illinois, Miami University, Ohio Wesleyan University, and Columbus State Community College. Erinn earned his Ph.D. in geography from the University of Illinois with a focus on post-conflict reconstruction, peacebuilding, and the construction of political space. He won the 2017 WGU Leadership Award and the 2008 University of Illinois Fred W. Foster Award for Teaching Excellence. Erinn formerly was a Foreign Service Officer with the US Department of State.  

Barry Sharpe is a Course Instructor (General Education/Political Science) at Western Governors University. He has also served as a faculty member and administrator at several public universities and liberal arts colleges. Barry is the author of Modesty and Arrogance in Judgment: Hannah Arendt’s Eichmann in Jerusalem, as well as articles on political theory, applied ethics, and pedagogy. He has a Ph.D. in political science from the University of South Carolina and a J.D. from the University of Texas-Austin.

Session 1: Re-Imagining Hybrid and Online Instructional Practice After the Pandemic

The post-pandemic educational landscape of online and hybrid learning models presents opportunities to integrate recent scholarship on teaching and learning in creative ways. We will reflect on how core educational strategies, faculty-student connections, and spaces for deeper collaboration are likely to be transformed in the coming years.

Those who attend will benefit from opportunities to share thoughts on how to enhance focused student attention within online and hybrid models, transform the nature of faculty-student connection, and spur innovation in building student collaboration to achieve deeper knowledge and understanding of lesson content.
