Jason R. Thompson is a thought leader in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, having spent the past 25 years building DE&I programs in sports, healthcare, technology, and education organizations.
His programs have won several awards at the local and international level. Most recently, the D&I Scorecard Jason developed received the top honor in the 2016 International Innovations in Diversity Awards program from Profiles in Diversity Journal, which also recognized him as a Diversity Leader in 2017 and 2018. His work has been highlighted and quoted in USA Today, The Washington Post, CNN, The New York Times, and The Guardian.
Session 1: Why inclusion matters.
Inclusion is commonly talked about in many companies and organizations. However knowing how to actually make real progress on inclusion can be challenging. Jason will share his experience and tools that help a company or organization focus on inclusion
Participants will leave with:
- An understanding of what inclusion is and why it is in an important goal for organizations and companies
- A few simple tools to intentionally move toward a more inclusive culture
Session 2: Why diversity plans should reflect your company.
Leaders are responsible for creating a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment where everyone is treated fairly and in a respectful manner. Creating a plan so that every employee knows what is expected of them can be challenging. The most successful companies create DE&I plans that reflect their company, its values and its mission.
Participants will takeaway:
- An understanding of the importance of developing a DE&I plan that looks like their company
- A general format to begin the process of formulation a personalized company DE&I plan
- Participants are encouraged to review their organizations mission and vision prior to the session
Session 3: Why diversity data matters and how to use it for a successful DEI program.
Most companies collect some data, but knowing what to collect, when to collect it and how to use that data to set realistic, achievable goals is a challenge for many organizations. Jason will share his experience across different industries and company sizes on why diversity data is essential and how to use it most effectively to inform the direction and achievement of your DE&I initiatives and programs.
Participants will understand:
- What data to collect
- When data should be collected
- How data is the first thing a DE&I officer needs to do in order to focus resources and outcomes on the right areas
