Graduate profile: Deann Mitchell.

Meet Deann Mitchell, a Certified Financial Planner, Certified Divorce Financial Analyst, and WGU Missouri graduate. Deann helps clients invest and manage their money. Deann had years of industry specific training and certifications, but did not earn her Bachelor of Arts degree until age 49. After that she wanted to continue toward an MBA.

WGU Graduate

Since she would not be receiving tuition assistance, nor would earning an MBA automatically change her salary, she was looking for an institution that was cost efficient. She chose WGU Missouri because of the flexibility and affordability. “I learned about WGU through Central Exchange in Kansas City. I was intrigued with the flexibility that the online curriculum offered, as well as the potential to accelerate the timeframe as desired.”

Deann had full support from her family while on her quest to earn her MBA. “My husband did not mind my locking myself in my office and was happy to pick up the slack around the house. My daughters, 23 and 18, are proud that I was continuing my education.”

Deann previous education and work experience helped prepare her for the WGU Missouri MBA program. Deann was able use her prior knowledge to move quickly through the curriculum and complete her degree in 9 months. She earned her B.A. at a traditional university in an accelerated one-year program, which met on campus once a week. With WGU Missouri, Deann was able to schedule her education time around professional and personal commitments.

“My MBA degree from WGU Missouri has helped prepare me for a career with multiple channels. I anticipate continuing my work as a financial planner and divorce consultant, but can now see myself enhancing my career with non-profit board positions and political candidacy.”

When asked what she would tell someone who is considering earning a degree from WGU Missouri Deann said, “Go for it! Having my MBA gave me a sense of empowerment. As my husband says, I am probably unaware of the opportunities I was not offered because I lacked a degree. That will not happen again.”
