As hundreds of WGU Washington graduates — as well as their families and friends — prepare for this month’s commencement ceremony, many are making travel arrangements to and from the Emerald City for the big day.
Graduates are descending on Seattle — more specifically, the city’s Queen Anne neighborhood — from all over the state. While certainly WGU Washington’s commencement ceremony on April 28 is the main attraction, here are our suggestions of things to see, do and eat while you’re in town:
Kerry Park: Put simply, Kerry Park is one of — if not the — best views of downtown Seattle and Elliott Bay. A must-see for visitors and an excellent photo-op for families and graduates!

Seattle Center: Originally constructed for the 1962 Worlds Fair, the Seattle Center campus is home to the Space Needle, the Pacific Science Center, the Museum of Popular Culture, the Chihuly Garden and Glass, and countless other Seattle landmarks, including the site of WGU Washington’s 2014 commencement ceremony, McCaw Hall!
305 Harrison Street
Ride the Ducks Tours: Seattle’s number one city tour, Ride the Ducks shows you the Emerald City by land and by sea. The amphibious tour vehicles take passengers all over the city, highlighting Seattle’s most famous landmarks and rich history.
516 Broad Street
Local Eats: Work up an appetite during all that site seeing? You’re in luck — there’s no shortage of great restaurants sprinkled throughout the neighborhood. Whether you’re craving Italian and decide to grab a table at Crow, or opt to swing by Peso’s for an enchilada, there’s something for everyone within just a few short miles.
The Great Wheel: Go for a spin on the Seattle Great Wheel, a giant Ferris wheel on Pier 57. It is the tallest Ferris wheel on the West Coast and has fantastic views of Seattle’s Elliott Bay. You can see the wheel illuminated in fantastic colored lights every evening.

Graduation weekend is going to be here before you know it — take time on the 17th to celebrate with your graduate; take in the view from the park, scope out some of Seattle’s famous landmarks, or simply sit down to a nice meal.
