Online University Experience

A message from the WGU Texas chancellor.

The American mythologist, writer, and lecturer Joseph Campbell (author of The Hero with a Thousand Faces) famously expressed that "A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself". On this Memorial Day, as we gratefully remember our American men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedom and for the sake of preserving our liberties, we also want to take a moment to acknowledge all military members and their families across Texas who give so much of themselves for the sake of us all.

At WGU Texas, more than 13 percent of our students are military, and many of our graduates are veterans. While they continue to support our communities, their contemporaries, and families in vital ways, our students and graduates served with men and women who were injured in battle or died in service to our country. They have not forgotten that sacrifice, and nor have we.

We are thankful to all men and women in uniform and we’re honored to have so many vets advancing their educational and career opportunities at WGU Texas. They—and the rest of our students, teachers, and administrators—live safer, better, and freer lives because of their service and sacrifice and the ultimate sacrifice given by those troops who did not have the chance to return home.

They live on every day through their undying commitment to defending our fundamental rights and freedoms.
