Good Samaritan celebrates National Nurses Week.

Professional development team members share their WGU Indiana experience.

Good Samaritan nurses

Good Samaritan, located in Vincennes, provides the southwest Indiana and southeast Illinois communities affordable access to high-quality health services.

WGU Indiana had the pleasure of interviewing Good Samaritan’s WGU Indiana graduates, who are Andrea Goodman, MSN, RN, Kimberly Hughes, MSN, RN, Angela Shick, MBA, MSN, RN, CNML, CHTS-CP, and Jennifer Shrum, MSN, RN, CRRN, CNML.

These women are part of the professional development team and provided insight on what led them to earn their degree from the online, competency-based university.

What was the reasoning for your team pursuing their degrees from WGU Indiana?

We wanted to better equip ourselves in leadership and education to assist current staff and future nurses in their professional development.

Why was WGU Indiana the perfect fit for furthering education?

The flexibility, affordability and the fact that it’s a competency-based university were all reasons why WGU Indiana would work well for us as we pursued higher education.

How has Good Samaritan benefitted from its WGU Indiana graduates?

We have used our knowledge to develop and deliver quality education that is engaging for the learners while also promoting improved patient outcomes.

What advice would you give to someone pursuing a nursing degree?

GO FOR IT! WGU is wonderful for nontraditional students looking to advance their career. We now have the tools we need to be successful. The flexibility allowed us to work full time, stay active in family activities and move through the classes at a comfortable pace.

How will your staff be celebrating National Nurses Week?

We’ll be providing breakfast and a basket raffle to raise money for staff nurse professional development!
