Silver State Rural Scholarship shout outs.

WGU Nevada would like to applaud some of the Silver State Rural Scholarship recipients.

If you aren’t from Nevada, it is hard to imagine anything but Las Vegas being the entertainment capital of the world. However, Nevadans know that our state is filled with more than the lights of the Strip and how vast it really is. The rural way of life is one that flourishes in the Silver State, and at WGU Nevada, we were able to offer some scholarships to those living in these rural areas. We would like to give a shout out to some of the “Silver State Rural Scholarship” recipients:

Chelsea Odoms

Chelsea Odoms from Winnemucca was awarded a $2,500 scholarship from WGU Nevada to help her pursue a master’s degree in teaching. According to Odoms, WGU has been a good choice, especially as a rural Nevadan, to pursue a master’s degree. “What made me really decide on WGU is I could go at my own pace, as I have two small children and a full-time teaching position, so my ‘extra time’ is limited,” said Odoms. “I also love having a mentor that checks in with me and is always available. I have been able to progress pretty quickly because I have great guidance.”

Beth Knight

Beth Knight from Fallon received a $2,500 scholarship from WGU Nevada to help her pursue a master’s degree in teaching. According to Knight, WGU has been a smart choice for many reasons as she works toward a master’s degree. “Flexibility is key for me,” she said. “I work full-time as a night shift nurse and am the mother of six kids, so my time is very limited. I also like that I am responsible for how slowly or quickly I learn the material; I can set my own pace.”

Nora Bond

Nora Bond from Pahrump was awarded a $2,500 scholarship from WGU Nevada to help her pursue a master’s degree in educational leadership.  Bond, who is a single mother of two, said, “Now is my time to go back to school for a second degree not only to further my education, but to also inspire my children. With them seeing me go back to school, I am hoping to instill in them how very important education is.”

We are genuinely proud of these WGU students and others as they embark on amazing accomplishments!
