Online University Experience

A success story in the making.

WGU North Carolina celebrates its third anniversary.

There are many ways to gauge success. Perhaps the easiest way is to demonstrate it quantitatively.

By that measure, WGU North Carolina’s first three years have been a success.

Western Governors University’s seventh state affiliate was officially approved by the North Carolina Legislature and Governor Pat McCrory in 2015. Two years later, we were thrilled to welcome WGU President Scott Pulsipher to Raleigh for the official launch of WGU North Carolina on October 5, 2017.

Even though there were North Carolina residents enrolled in WGU before then, enrollment has more than tripled in the last three years. Other relevant figures are illustrated below.

Another way to measure WGU North Carolina’s success is through our impact on the lives of students and graduates. We recently received this testimonial:

“How has WGU changed my life? WGU gave me hope and a purpose. I was unsure what direction I wanted to take in my nursing career. I enrolled in WGU’s MSN Leadership and Management program in March 2020. I have never been connected with so many independent, motivated people in my life. WGU showed me the real meaning of independence and allowed me to take my career to the next level.”

– Reaonna C., Huntersville

We’ll be sharing more testimonials in a future blog post.

As part of WGU North Carolina’s third anniversary, we recently launched our Three for Three Scholarships, which will provide 10 North Carolinians with $3,000 each in tuition credit (at $750 per six-month term, renewable for up to four terms). Find out more at nc.wgu.edu/3for3

In the meantime, we extend our gratitude to all WGU North Carolina students, graduates, faculty, staff, family, friends, and supporters. You all share in our success!

Our first three years have been very fulfilling, but we aren’t done yet. WGU North Carolina was established to expand access to higher education for North Carolina residents, and we will continue to work every day to make that a reality, because “Ambition Never Rests.”
