Student Success

Tenn-K scholarships provide opportunity to thrive.

A $10,000 scholarship could help you turn the page on 2020's challenges and thrive in 2021.

2020 brought many challenges for everyone. With brick-and-mortar universities’ adapting to online-only learning and an increased financial burden for many adults, the barrier for adults looking to return to school and pursue a degree has never been higher.

Tenn-K Scholarship

As a leader in online learning for over two decades, WGU Tennessee hasn’t skipped a beat with the challenges that 2020 brought. WGU has continued to find ways to support and provide resources to help students continue their degree program. WGU students pay half the tuition and end up with half the debt of the national average, with 42% of undergraduate alumni completing their degrees without taking out student loans.

Single mom Victoria Abbott saw the support WGU Tennessee provided for students and decided to take the leap and pursue a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from WGU Tennessee to become an instructional supervisor in the Jackson–Madison County School System.

The fifth-grade math teacher applied for the 2020 Tenn-K Scholarship in hopes of starting a flexible master’s program without breaking the bank. Upon receiving the scholarship, Abbott continued to teach her students full time while working through her degree program.

The financial burden of earning a degree can be monumental for adults going back to school, and our annual Tenn-K Scholarship covers nearly 70% of a recipient’s tuition costs. Since launching in 2013, WGU Tennessee has awarded more than $3 million in scholarships to Tennesseans.

WGU Tennessee’s mission from the start has been to provide working Tennesseans with better access to quality, affordable education options that meet them where they are. WGU Tennessee is a 100% online, accredited university for working adults, offering competency-based degree programs that measure skills and learning rather than time.
