Biography.

Dr. Mark David Milliron is an award-winning leader, author, and speaker. He serves as Senior Vice President and Executive Dean of Western Governors University’s Teachers College where he leads the academic and operational strategy for the largest college of education in the U.S., serving nearly 30,000 education students in all 50 states. WGU’s Teachers College is dedicated to providing next-generation programs for teachers and leaders across the K-12, Higher Education, and Workforce sectors. 

Mark has a long history championing and supporting the work of WGU. He served on the Board of Trustees and was the Chair of the Academic Policy Committee from 2003-2009. He helped support the launch of WGU Indiana and WGU Washington, and later served as the Founding Chancellor of WGU Texas in 2011. In roles outside of WGU, Mark has served as President of the League for Innovation in the Community College; Endowed Fellow, Senior Lecturer, and Executive Director of the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) in the College of Education at the University of Texas at Austin; Deputy Director of Postsecondary Success at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; and Co-Founder and Chief Learning Officer of Civitas Learning. 

Mark also catalyzes innovation in education through service on numerous boards, including: Bennett College, the Trellis Foundation, the Global Online Academy, the Hope Center for College, Community & Justice, ISKME/OERcommons, and Civitas Learning. He also holds an appointment as a Professor of Practice for The University of Texas at Austin's College of Education, teaching in their doctoral program for education leadership and policy; and serves on the editorial boards of Change: The Magazine for Higher Learning and International Journal of Innovations in Online Education (IJIOE).
