KANSAS CITY — WGU Missouri is excited to welcome two new KC Scholars to the university this summer. The two students joining WGU are LaJuanna Anderson and Terri Fletcher. LaJuanna Anderson is a full-time dispatcher with the Kansas City Police Department, and a first-generation college student, who earned an associate’s degree from MCC-Longview and will pursue her bachelor’s in business WGU. Terri Fletcher is also a first-generation college student who earned her associate’s degree from MCC–Penn Valley and will pursue a bachelor’s in education at WGU.

WGU Missouri began its partnership with KC Scholars, a scholarship and college savings program created by the Kauffman Foundation and more than 70 community members, in July of 2017. Through this partnership, WGU Missouri has agreed to waive any tuition not covered by federal financial aid for students who are awarded the KC Scholars Adult Learner Scholarship, a $5,000 per year renewable scholarship available to adult learners with low to moderate income.

All WGU Missouri degree programs are competency-based, providing the flexibility that nontraditional students need. Designed with employer input to meet the needs of adult learners, competency-based education allows students to take advantage of their knowledge and real-world experience to move quickly through material they already know so they can focus on what they still need to learn.
