CENTERVILLE — WGU Ohio has awarded Elizabeth Reyes, a team leader in a labor and delivery unit at Premier Health’s Miami Valley Hospital South, a $2,000 Women in Leadership Scholarship toward her master’s in nursing degree at the university.
“Through this position, I have gained the knowledge that I love to teach. I get a feeling of satisfaction when I see someone succeeding in an area that I have oriented them in, or demonstrating a skill that I taught them,” Reyes said. “I took some time to investigate the different programs available before deciding that I wanted to proceed with WGU.”
Valued at $2,000, the scholarship is aimed at increasing the number of women in leadership roles in their fields and is applied at the rate of $500 per six-month term, renewable for up to four terms, toward WGU’s already low tuition of about $3,750 per term for most graduate programs. While multiple scholarships are awarded, it is a competitive program. Scholarships are awarded based on the candidate’s academic record, readiness for online study and current competency, as well as other considerations.
Reyes is one of 58 Premier Health employees who are currently pursuing or have earned bachelor’s or master’s degrees through WGU’s unique, competency-based approach to education -- an ideal match for busy, working adults who need a degree to advance their careers.
