SALT LAKE CITY - Western Governors University (WGU) is partnering with Lifetime® for #SheDidThat, a campaign that celebrates four exceptional women who earned master’s degrees from WGU and have gone on to better their world as teachers, nurses, innovators, entrepreneurs, and glass-ceiling breakers.
From now through March, Lifetime will profile the inspirational stories of WGU graduates Krystal Covington, Laurie Charles, Sarah “Mic” Merritt, and Michelle Johnson at MyLifetime.com and across Lifetime’s social media channels.
A graduate of WGU’s College of Business, Krystal Covington decided to build the community she felt she was missing after she moved to Denver, Colorado. She successfully created a network of female entrepreneurs from the ground up called “The Women of Denver” and now hosts the popular podcast, “Women Who Badass.”
Laurie Charles, a graduate of WGU’s College of Health Professions, trains nursing students at Texas A&M College of Nursing to care for and recognize victims of human trafficking, sexual assault, domestic violence and child/elder abuse.
Sarah “Mic” Merritt graduated from WGU’s College of Information Technology and is the U.S. Air Force’s only female, active-duty, cyber-warfare instructor. Since she is often the only woman in the room, she dedicates her free time working to get more women and girls into STEM fields.
Michelle Johnson is a graduate of WGU’s College of Teaching and works with at-risk high school students. She makes sure all her students have what they need to reach their potential — whether that means providing them with basics like clean clothing and toiletries so they can attend school with dignity or teaching them the leadership skills they need to succeed after graduation.
