WGU Indiana's Back to School Scholarship Application Now Open for New Students

Scholarship is the largest offering to date, awarding $800,000 in total to WGU students

INDIANAPOLIS – To celebrate the beginning of the 2019-20 academic school year, Western Governors University (WGU) will award $800,000 in scholarships to busy adults who would like to earn a college degree on a schedule that fits their lives. WGU Indiana is now accepting applications for its annual Back to School Scholarship for newly enrolled students. The Back to School Scholarship is WGU’s largest scholarship offering to date.

New students who are seeking either a bachelor’s or master’s degree in any of the four academic programs and more than 60 bachelor’s and master’s degree programs that WGU Indiana offers (business, information technology, education, and health professions, including nursing) can apply for this scholarship through Sept. 30, 2019.

Each WGU Indiana Back to School Scholarship is valued up to $2,000 and applied at $500 per six-month term for up to four terms. To be eligible, scholarship applicants must be officially admitted to WGU Indiana, complete the scholarship application and be interviewed by a WGU scholarship counselor. Recipients will be selected based on academic records, financial need, readiness for online study and current competency, among other considerations.

“WGU Indiana prides itself on providing an alternative and affordable option for those not well-served by traditional college,” said Alison Bell, chancellor for WGU Indiana. “Through scholarships like this, we are able to add additional value and support to our new students and returning students as they pursue a degree and enhance their professional pathway.”

This scholarship is designed for new students, as well as alumni seeking a second degree. Students are eligible to apply for this scholarship up to 90 days prior to their start date and up to 90 days after starting a degree program.

WGU pioneered competency-based education, which measures learning rather than time spent in class. This allows students to earn career-enhancing degrees while meeting work and family obligations. Students complete their programs by studying on schedules that fit their lives, advancing as soon as they demonstrate that they have mastered course materials. Many students are able to apply prior learning and work experience to help them accelerate their time to earning a degree, saving both time and money.
