INDIANAPOLIS – For the second year in a row, WGU Indiana is offering $50,000 in scholarships to honor those dedicated to providing public service within the Hoosier State. The scholarships are in celebration of Public Service Recognition Week (May 5 – 11) and is part of WGU Indiana’s commitment to the development of the state’s workforce.
The Public Service Recognition Scholarship will extend four scholarships worth $6,500 as well as 10 general scholarships worth $2,400. These scholarships are offered exclusively to State of Indiana employees seeking to advance their careers through WGU Indiana’s 60 online degree programs.
“WGU Indiana applauds all State of Indiana employees for their service,” said WGU Indiana Chancellor Alison Bell. “We’re thrilled to offer this exclusive Public Service Recognition Scholarship that will assist State of Indiana employees in fulfilling their dreams of career advancement.”
Joshua Peltier was one of 10 Hoosiers to receive the Public Service Recognition Scholarship in 2018. With the scholarship, Peltier, who has served as the maintenance foreman for the State of Indiana for the past decade, had the opportunity to return to school and pursue a degree in special education.
“Receiving this scholarship provided a form of recognition that individuals in servant leadership don’t often get. It also made it possible for me to make a major career change while still easily managing my other financial responsibilities,” said Peltier. “WGU Indiana wants to see their students succeed. My mentors, course instructors and a host of other professionals have been extremely helpful during my journey at WGU Indiana.”
The PSRW Scholarship is one of many scholarships offered by WGU Indiana. Through the generosity of numerous corporations and foundations, plus special federal government appropriations, WGU Indiana maintains a robust program of scholarships made available to qualified students. These scholarships allow more Hoosiers to experience the benefits from WGU Indiana’s degree programs that are designed to meet the needs of adult learners.
