KENT – This evening, WGU Washington Chancellor Dr. Tonya Drake delivered a commencement address to the 2019 graduating class of Lower Columbia College (LCC). The commencement ceremony celebrated the accomplishments of the more than 500 individuals that earned college degrees, as well as the nearly 100 that earned high school diplomas. As an LCC alumna, Drake emphasized how education enables individuals to make an impact and spark change, referencing her own experiences at LCC and within the broader Longview community.

“I grew up and went to school in Longview, so my roots in the community run deep,” stated Drake. “I was so honored to return to my alma mater – the college that launched me into my education and, ultimately, my career as a leader in higher learning – to deliver remarks that are meaningful and inspiring to LCC’s class of 2019.”

In addition to being Drake’s alma mater, LCC shares an enhanced strategic partnership with WGU Washington. The two institutions work together to create more opportunities for students to pursue postsecondary credentials without leaving Cowlitz County or making lengthy commutes. The online, nonprofit university keeps space in LCC’s Lower Columbia Regional University Center, an on-campus resource that provides local opportunities for four-year degrees and beyond. Additionally, WGU Washington students have access to on-campus amenities at LCC including the library, parking, dining and gym facilities.
