WGU Washington Inducts Bellingham Tech Staff Member into Sage Society

Jennifer Tachiyama honored for fostering academic and career success for nurses

KENT – For her work helping nursing students earn credentials and enter the local workforce, WGU Washington inducted Jennifer Tachiyama into the university’s Sage Society. Like a Hall of Fame, the Sage Society honors individuals instrumental in the academic success of others.

Tachiyama, the Nursing Student Navigator for Bellingham Technical College (BTC), provides vital academic and career advising services to all nursing and pre-nursing students.

She has supported the significant expansion of BTC’s nursing program, including the addition of an evening, LPN-to-RN cohort. She is influential in the success of BTC students sitting for the National Council Licensure Examination, helping create precise and personalized study regiments – resulting in 95%-100% pass rate each term.  Additionally, Tachiyama has played an important role facilitating career opportunities for students within partner hospitals and clinics.

“Jennifer has dedicated her career to helping students succeed – in school and beyond,” said Andrea Nelson, strategic partnerships manager at WGU Washington. “She takes a highly-effective, hands-on approach to guide students toward graduation, then helps them secure in-demand jobs in the healthcare community.”

Tachiyama was inducted into WGU Washington’s Sage Society during a brief ceremony this afternoon in the Haskell Center on BTC’s campus. Among those in attendance, BTC’s President Dr. Kim Perry, Vice President of Academic Affairs & Student Learning Walter Hudsick, and Dean of Nursing and Allied Health Julie Samms.
