KENT – Today is a day of celebration for WGU Washington. It was eight years ago today former Gov. Christine Gregoire, the state legislature, and Western Governors University partnered to create the only state-endorsed online university in Washington. The intent was to increase access to low-cost, high-quality postsecondary education for more Washingtonians.

Since then, that vision has been realized as the university has awarded more than 15,000 bachelor’s and master’s degrees and seen its enrollment grow from 800 students in 2011 to more than 12,000 students today – an increase of 1,400 percent. WGU Washington is the largest private school in the state and the third most popular transfer institution, trailing only the University of Washington and Washington State University systems.

WGU Washington offers more than 60, accredited bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in business, information technology, K–12 teacher education, and health professions, including nursing. A state-based affiliate of nationally recognized Western Governors University, WGU Washington is open to all qualified Washington residents and members of the military community living or serving in Washington. It is designed to meet the needs of busy, midcareer adults and traditionally underserved student populations.
