WGU Indiana Reaches 100% Pass Rate for National Nursing Licensure Examination for Four Consecutive Quarters

INDIANAPOLIS – Supply and demand through 2020 confirms the growing need for qualified nurses, and WGU Indiana’s CCNE-accredited prelicensure nursing program is leading the way. The online university’s fully accredited program has resulted in a 100% pass rate for The National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN® exam) in the first two quarters of 2020 and the past four rolling quarters. The program delivers all didactic content online and partners with leading healthcare providers for high-quality, in-person clinical experiences.

The NCLEX exam is a nationwide examination for the licensing of nurses in the United States and Canada. According to The National Council of State Boards of Nursing, the 2020 national average for passing the exam is 89.61%. Since WGU Indiana’s nursing program began in 2016, WGU Indiana’s nursing students have exceeded the national average with a cumulative 91% pass rate and a steady increase year-over-year.

WGU Indiana has partnerships with healthcare employers across the state who provide practice sites and clinical coaches that help teach and inspire students on their path to becoming a nurse. Some students impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic were unable to complete in-person clinicals for their final “Role Transition” course. In response, the university’s curriculum team developed a virtual experience with their clinical instructors, enabling their path to degree completion.

Prelicensure grads have gone on to a variety of roles and additional degrees enabling them to work as neonatal nurse practitioners, nurse managers, nurse educators and nurses involved with the Nurse-Family Partnership.

“WGU Indiana’s BSN (Prelicensure) program is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for individuals aspiring to become a nurse,” said State Director of Prelicensure Nursing-Indiana, Mary Carney. “NCLEX is a rigorous exam that requires a steadfast commitment to the program. I couldn’t be more proud of our nursing students and all those involved in preparing them for their licensure exams and career placement.”
