INDIANAPOLIS - WGU Indiana, the online, competency-based university, builds on its commitment to expand access to higher education for Indiana residents throughout the state. In addition to its already affordable tuition, the university awarded 473 scholarships to eligible participants in 2019. In total, WGU Indiana invested $911,713 in scholarships for its students during the 2019 calendar year.
This year marks 10 years since WGU Indiana became the first state model of Western Governors University and has tripled their investment in scholarships for students. In that time, WGU Indiana has awarded 2,602 scholarships to qualifying students, totaling more than $5 million. In the last year alone, WGU Indiana increased the amount of scholarships given to students by 27%.
In Indiana, 750,000 working age adults have completed some college but do not have a degree. For many Hoosiers, the financial burden is often one of the major obstacles to completing their higher education degree. WGU Indiana’s affordable tuition and competency-based model allows students more flexibility to graduate at their own pace. The university-funded scholarships lower tuition even further to lessen the financial burden for those pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in any of the four WGU Indiana programs: business, K-12 teacher education, information technology and health professions, including nursing.
