Indianapolis Star names WGU Indiana Winner of the Top Workplaces 2020 Award

INDIANAPOLIS – WGU Indiana, the state's only fully online, competency-based university, has been awarded a Top Workplaces 2020 honor by The Indianapolis Star. The list is based solely on employee feedback gathered through a third-party survey administered by employee engagement technology partner Energage, LLC. The anonymous survey uniquely measures 15 drivers of engaged cultures that are critical to the success of any organization, including alignment, execution, and connection, among others.

“In times of great change, it is more important than ever to maintain a connection among employees,” said Eric Rubino, Energage CEO. “When you give your employees a voice, you come together to navigate challenges and shape your path forward based on real-time insights into what works best for your organization. The Top Workplaces program can be that positive outcome your company can rally around in the coming months to celebrate leadership and the importance of maintaining an employee-focused culture, even during challenging times.”

Over the last decade, WGU Indiana has remained committed to creating pathways between talent and opportunity by making a quality education more flexible and more affordable for non-traditional learners, including Hoosiers in underserved communities and working adults.

WGU Indiana offers more than 60 accredited bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in business, information technology, K–12 education, and health professions, including nursing. The nonprofit, online university celebrated its 10-year anniversary this month. Mitch Daniels, former governor of Indiana, was part of the founding body of Western Governors University who believed that technology and competency-based education could transform higher education and create opportunities for non-traditional learners. He established WGU Indiana in 2010 as the first state affiliate of WGU, which effectively created job opportunities on behalf of the university in Indiana.

WGU Indiana’s competency-based education model enables students to take advantage of their knowledge and experience and accelerate their progress, saving both time and money. WGU program mentors offer guidance and support and faculty instructors provide individualized instruction.

“Higher education and workforce skills have changed drastically over the last decade and WGU Indiana is constantly finding new ways to innovate that meet the evolving needs of our students and the job landscape,” said Alison Bell, Regional Vice President and Chancellor of WGU Indiana. “Opportunities that stem from higher education are limitless and our goal for the last 10 years, and for the next 10 and beyond, is to make sure that Hoosiers have equal access to those opportunities and to fulfill their potential.”

“WGU Indiana employs more than 300 staff members throughout the state to serve our more than 5,600 students and over 10,000 alumni every day,” said Alison Bell, Regional Vice President and Chancellor of WGU Indiana. “Every day we are immensely proud of the hard work each and every employee puts in to give our students, graduates and partners the education and experience they deserve. We are a culture that emphasizes creating opportunities, and our goal will always be to innovate and evolve the way in which we create and provide new opportunities to our community.”
