BROWNSVILLE – WGU Texas and Brownsville ISD (BISD) launched a new partnership agreement to create seamless transfer pathways for BISD employees who want to earn their bachelor’s or master’s degree with WGU Texas.
“WGU Texas is excited to assist school district employees achieve their higher education goals,” said Linda Battles, Regional Director, WGU Texas. “Lifelong learning and upskilling are necessary to keep pace with changes in the job market. Our partnership with Brownsville ISD will provide accessible, affordable, high-quality education that will help reduce the educational attainment and skills gap in the region.”
BISD is the largest school district and largest employer in the Rio Grande Valley with a total of 54 schools, 6,458 employees, and 43,028 students. BISD works closely with higher education institutions to motivate everyone in the community to continue their education.
Through the agreement with WGU Texas, BISD employees may select among the more than 60 accredited bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in information technology, business, health professions, and teaching. Transfer students also receive special benefits including:
- Exclusive partner scholarships, valued at up to $2,000,
- Access to more than 30 additional scholarships and financial aid,
- Comprehensive, seamless transfer policy.
WGU Texas’ current enrollment is 13,284 students with students enrolled in 233 of the state’s 254 counties, including 85 students in Cameron county. Eighty-three percent of WGU Texas students hold full-and part-time jobs.
