DURHAM — As part of Military Appreciation Month, WGU North Carolina has announced that its $2,500 Military Service Scholarships have been expanded for 2021. These scholarships were introduced in 2019 and will now be awarded to ten members of North Carolina’s military community, as opposed to eight per year in previous years.
The Military Service Scholarships are available to currently serving military members, veterans, and their families, and can be applied to any of the more than 60 bachelor’s and master’s degrees offered by WGU in business, IT, education, and healthcare, including nursing. Winners of the Military Service Scholarships will be credited with $625 per six-month term, renewable for up to four terms.
The application deadline is July 31, 2021, and more information can be found at nc.wgu.edu/militaryservice. Scholarships will be awarded based on a candidate’s academic record, readiness for online study, and current competency, as well as other considerations.
“As a former Army officer who subsequently pursued a career in higher education, I know how important the right degree is for the right job,” said Ben Coulter, Ed.D., State Director for WGU North Carolina. “The WGU North Carolina Military Service Scholarships are one of our most popular scholarship offerings and have helped pave the way for career success for many deserving winners.”
WGU North Carolina is an affiliate of the accredited online Western Governors University, which has been named a Military Friendly® School for 11 consecutive year. Designed for working adults, WGU offers an asynchronous, competency-based model that allows students to log in and access coursework at a time convenient for them, and to accelerate at their own pace. Tuition is around $3,750 per six-month term for most undergraduate degree programs, and students can take as many courses as they and their assigned mentors are comfortable with within a term.
