DURHAM — WGU North Carolina, an affiliate of Western Governors University, launched the Three for Three Scholarship program in October 2020 in recognition of its third anniversary. Following a review of the applications, WGU North Carolina has announced the scholarship winners, each of whom will receive up to $3,000 in tuition credit (at $750 per term, renewable up to four terms).

“Congratulations to all of the Three for Three Scholarship winners throughout the state,” said Kimberly Estep, WGU’s Vice President, Southeast Region. “These scholarships were very competitive, and each of the winners not only demonstrated a desire to further their education, but also the ambition and dedication to succeed.”

Designed for working adults, WGU is an accredited, nonprofit online university offering more than 60 undergraduate and graduate degrees in IT, business, K-12 teacher education, and healthcare, including nursing. WGU offers an asynchronous, competency-based model that allows students to log in and access coursework at a time convenient for them, and to accelerate at their own pace. Tuition is around $3,250 per six-month term for most undergraduate degree programs, and students can take as many courses as they and their assigned mentors are comfortable with within a term. 

Since 2017, WGU North Carolina’s enrollment has more than tripled to more than 3,900 active students across 99 of North Carolina’s 100 counties. More than 4,700 of WGU’s 222,000 graduates nationwide live in the state.
