What is AWS?

AWS stands for Amazon Web Services. Amazon Web Services a cloud computing platform that offers customers a wide array of cloud services. It provides thousands of different cloud services to individuals and businesses, from storage to IT infrastructure. But AWS is working with institutions and employers to help prepare students around the world to join the cloud workforce through its AWS Academy and AWS Educate programs.

What is AWS Educate?

AWS Educate is a global initiative by Amazon to give students, educators, and educational institutions resources to boost cloud learning. AWS Educate focuses on the next generation of IT and cloud professionals, helping them get the cloud learning resources needed to be successful.

AWS Educate works with institutions to embed cloud-specific learning into programs of study aligned to entry-level job requirements to prepare students for in-demand careers in cloud computing. WGU worked closely with AWS Educate and AWS Academy to design the bachelor’s degree in cloud computing. The benefits for WGU students include hands-on activities and labs to build in the cloud.

AWS Educate also provides self-paced learning content to hundreds of thousands of students to help them grow technical expertise through AWS Educate Cloud Career Pathways and Badges. In addition to the learning pathways, AWS Educate student members receive promotional credit to work in the AWS Console and access to the

AWS Educate Job Board to explore thousands of jobs and internships from Amazon and other companies around the world.

What is AWS Academy?

AWS Academy provides higher education institutions with a free, ready-to-teach cloud computing curriculum that prepares students to pursue industry-recognized certifications and in-demand cloud jobs. Our curriculum helps educators stay at the forefront of AWS Cloud innovation so that they can equip students with the skills they need to get hired in one of the fastest-growing industries.

WGU's cloud computing degree program helps prepare students to take the AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate exam. Industry-recognized certification is extremely valuable for students pursuing cloud careers.


AWS Certifications

There are currently 12 AWS Certifications available. WGU's B.S. in Cloud Computing and B.S. in Network Operations and Security help prepare students for the AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate certification and the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certifications, and students take the exams as part of the degree program at no extra charge. WGU's B.S. in Information Technology helps prepare students for the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification. Once certain coursework is passed, students get a voucher to take the certification exam for free.
